Recently I had a random conversation with two teachers; one had given birth and one was pregnant. As I reflected on our conversation I found myself picturing the visitation scene afterwards. I imagined Mary and Elizabeth today... what would it look like, and how would they feel? As I recalled the two teachers supporting each other, it seemed to be so similar to Mary and Elizabeth. She would be very excited to see her cousin Elizabeth, they would share their joy, anticipation and marvel at the mystery - and yes i'm sure Mary would wear jeans today!

They shared in their joint awe for what is happening inside them both. And it seems to me that remembering and holding sacred the spirit in our lives today we are all indeed born anew, new things grow within us when we are brave enough to say yes.

I hope this piece reminds you that God is longing to be born anew with and in you today too. May we all remember that we are chosen and each called by name.

Within a few days Mary set out and hurried to the hill country to a town of Judah, where she entered Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth. As soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leaped in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!
But why am I so favored, that the mother of the Messiah should come to me?
The moment your greeting reached my ears, the child in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who believed that what our God said to her would be accomplished!”
Luke 1:39-45
