Santa Rosa and San Martin de Porres

With the embrace of Pope Leo XIV, and many changes within the Roman Catholic world I have been inspired to create two new artworks that celebrate Peru and its beautiful people. Santa Rosa de Lima and San Martín de Porres are two great saints of Peru whose witness continues to inspire me and connects across cultures and generations.

Through these new artworks, I have also been developing and refining digital illustration techniques to create these new stained glass images. In vibrant colour and luminous light, the stained glass artwork aims to capture their deep faith and compassionate action.

Santa Rosa, known for her intense devotion and care for the poor, is depicted with roses and a loving gaze—symbols of both her beauty and her devotion. Notably, she is illustrated with indigenous beauty as opposed to the stereotypical European discourse.

Additionally, San Martín is illustrated with reference to his heritage. Also surrounded by a mouse, cat, and bird, with broom, basket and bread symbols; A nod to his humility, service, and love for all living creatures. Creatures together, reminding us of his radical kindness and healing spirit.

This artwork is more than imagery, I hope this is an invitation into connection and beholding beauty in all cultures. In our complex and divided world, Rosa and Martín stand as companions of justice, joy, prayer, and transformation. Their stories encourage me to find beauty in everyday service and to widen the circles of compassion. I hope they inspire you too.
