Discovering Vocation Alongside Graphic Design: Society of Mary (NZ)

It has been a privilege to collaborate with the Society of Mary NZ (Vocations Ministry) (aka Marist Fathers) recently on a series of design projects that support their important work of discernment, prayer, and invitation.
This body of work began with a refinement of their existing logo. The intention was not to reinvent, but to honour what was already there—clarifying form, improving usability across formats, and ensuring the mark could carry meaning with greater consistency and strength in both print and digital communication contexts.
To bring cohesion across all materials, we also developed branding communication through a set of visual identity guidelines. These provide a clear, modern, and consistent framework for how the Society of Mary (NZ) Vocations Ministry presents itself. Ensuring that future communications remain aligned, recognisable, and true to their mission. These continue to be updated as projects progress.
Furthermore, we developed a suite of printed resources to accompany the vocational journey. This included a series of booklets designed for discernment and prayer. These were approached with a quiet, contemporary, and contemplative aesthetic—allowing space for reflection while maintaining a sense of clarity and guidance. Typography, layout, and pacing were carefully considered to support a rhythm of reflective reading that feels both grounded and invitational.
Alongside the booklets, a prayer card was designed. This is something small enough to be held, kept, and returned to. The visual language here was intentionally consistent, simple and symbolic, creating a sense of presence and reverence while remaining accessible.
This project has been meaningful through collaboration. Linking design that serves not just communication, but vocation—supporting moments of discernment, prayer, and openness to where one is being called.
I’m grateful to have contributed to this work and welcome opportunities to continue collaborating with communities who value design as a way of expressing identity, purpose, story, and continual listening. I also look forward to hearing from you if you have questions or ideas about upcoming projects—just say hi...
