Thursdays are my 'Ministry Day'. As part of the Novitiate I have one day a week doing volunteer work. One of my projects is to design a museum.
We're turning an old Church into a museum (*Nana fist pump*). I'm learning a new 3D program, rolling up my sleeves and going for it. Applying basic design principles is super import and especially 'DESIGN WITH A PURPOSE'. I've got a long ways to go yet but he design is slowly starting to take shape... #workinprogress #NeverStopLearning
After reading Laudato Si my mentor encouraged me to keep doodling.
The main theme that came out of Laudato Si for me was the message that we are all connected... All brothers and sisters - brother moon, sister sun etc. St Francis was mentioned alot, he was well known for his love of the environment, he would often call things brother or sister... "Hello Sister Flower". It's worth giving it a try; when I was out on a run the other weekend a Gecko came outa know where... At first i was scared, but then i thought, OK I'll try the St Francis thing... I said "Hello Brother", I felt calmer, he then scurred off a meter or two and so did I. Then we both just stopped and were looking out at the Sydney Harbor for a few minutes. Nice.
The image of the world being like a big ball of thread seemed to fit too. Threads coming from one big worldly ball... threads all connecting us together, the good and the bad. By adding in reference numbers next to each of the doodles it helped me to be able to reference the points later too.
Laudato Si = Praise be to you.
I've just read an excellent wee article by Sr Julia Walsh FSPA on counter-cultural living... Bravo.

Here's an interesting section from her article: "I have been reflecting on my own maturation through counter-cultural behaviors and attitudes. I am a bit of an evolving countercultural creature:
I am a student of American ideals and a cynic of the American dream.
I am a girl who imagines I am a pioneer on an adventure.
I am a teen adorned with purple hair and an eyebrow ring.
I am not a hippy, a hipster or a beatnik.
I am not your average predictable nonconformist.
I will destroy your stereotypes; try to get to know me.
I will not fit in your box. I have no home on that spectrum.
I am not OK with injustice, violence, or environmental degradation.
I am an activist and a participant in social movements.
I am a joyful Christian and serious about following Jesus.
I am a Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration; modern life, sacred traditions.
I will meet you where you are and love you for who you are.
I will not stop asking questions nor believing in Christ’s peace."
St Teresa of Avila is one of my favourite saints. She was a courageous woman who also knew how to laugh!
She was a brave change-maker who started a reform of the Carmelite Sisters and Friars in the 16th century. Teresa was a woman of exceptional human qualities – warm, intelligent, witty, charming, adventurous, articulate and humorous too. We are familiar with her celebrated saying: “God deliver us from sour-faced saints!”
St Teresa founded over a half-dozen new monasteries in her lifetime. She traveled, wrote, fought - always to renew, to reform. In her self, in her prayer, in her life, in her efforts to reform, in all the people she touched, she was a woman for others, a woman who inspired and gave life. - Read more about her life here.
Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things pass away.
God alone remains.
Patience wins all things.
The one who has God needs nothing else.
God alone suffices.
- St Teresa of Avila
I've created an iphone wallpaper here with one of her quotes. Feel free to download and share.
